Settings & profile
Everything you set up lives in Settings, one tab per area: how your product behaves, how you get paid, and your own account. This guide covers them all.
Before you begin
Section titled “Before you begin”- You’re signed in. That’s it.
1. Set your units and new-client defaults
Section titled “1. Set your units and new-client defaults”Open Settings → Defaults.
Units chooses metric or imperial. It changes how every weight, distance and measurement is shown — on your screens and in your clients’ app — straight away. Nothing you’ve already entered changes; it’s only converted for display.
A client can choose their own units in their app (Profile → Units). That changes only what they see: you still read their numbers in your units, so a client in pounds and a coach in kilograms are looking at the same set in different numbers.
Below that, choose what a new client starts with:
- Intensity scale — how clients log effort: RIR, RPE, or none.
- Nutrition mode — macros, calories only, habits, or off (no nutrition tab).
- Show bodyweight tracking and Check-ins — whether new clients see weight inputs and have check-ins at all. With check-ins off, a new client has no Check In tab and gets no check-in reminders.
Choose Save defaults when you’re done.
2. Tailor your intake forms
Section titled “2. Tailor your intake forms”Under Settings → Intake forms you shape the questions a new client answers when they join, so the information you want is captured up front. Open a form to edit it: pick an answer type for each question and mark the ones that are Required. Changes save as you make them, and a client’s answers appear on their Intake tab.
You can keep more than one form — a general questionnaire, say, and a longer one for powerlifters. Choose New form, name it, and start from a blank form or a copy of one you already have. The form marked Default is the one every new client answers unless you pick another when you invite them; Make default switches it. Choose Archive on a form you no longer offer — clients already on it keep answering it — and a form nobody has answered yet can be deleted outright.
3. Set up payments
Section titled “3. Set up payments”Settings → Services holds the offerings clients pay for, Settings → Billing holds your own Stem subscription, your Stem bill and the Stripe account clients pay into, and Settings → Payments lists your clients’ payments, where you can refund one. All three are covered in Payments & billing.
Your ABN and GST registration sit on Settings → Billing under Tax details, because they change what your clients’ receipts say. Tick I’m registered for GST and receipts become tax invoices showing your ABN.
4. Update your profile
Section titled “4. Update your profile”Open Settings → Account. Change your photo, your Name, and your Business name here — the details clients and your dashboard show — then choose Save changes.
5. Sign-in and appearance
Section titled “5. Sign-in and appearance”The same tab lets you change your Password and Sign out, and set how Stem looks under Appearance:
- Theme — System follows your device’s light or dark setting, or pick Light or Dark to keep one.
- Palette — the colour of buttons, links and highlights: Stem (blue), Teal, Mauve or Purple.
Both are yours alone: your clients never see them. The Stem mobile apps have the same two settings.
What you’ll be able to do
Section titled “What you’ll be able to do”- Set your units, and the defaults every new client starts with
- Shape your intake forms, and choose which one is the default
- Find where payments are set up, and add your ABN and GST registration
- Update your name, business name, and photo
- Change your password, choose your theme and colour palette, and sign out
